Fear of Brett Kavanaugh. Election of Supreme Court Justice threatens Roe V. Wade
Brett Kavanaugh was sworn into the Supreme Court when votes came back 50-48 in his favor. The conservatives came out with a win not just with another body in their count, but involving many large court decisions that will be taking place. Many believe his win was the reason the democrats made such a large comeback during the elections in November. Aside from the greater issues the country is undergoing, Kavanaugh’s election fueled many into wanting to see change and actively going about it.
In regards to the #Metoo movement, women are now in fear that their voices will not be heard as loud. Kavanaugh had many allegations against him involving this movement and he proceeded to take his seat as the newest Supreme Court Justice. This speaks on many levels. Many men seem to be retaliating against the movement, in fear that they will be the next person accused, not taking into account the great amounts of trauma many women across the country are currently facing. Some women even fear the thought may not be hired in the workplace due to the mere fact that they are women.
What does this mean in terms of the upcoming Women’s March? Both women and men are planning ahead for next years Women’s March to help join in on the fight for women’s rights. While potentially losing reproductive rights is a huge concern for women right now, there are many other concerns with Kavanaugh now confirmed as the Supreme Court justice. Women are also now concerned for their voting rights, their equal rights, and even the roll back of civil rights in general.
The San Francisco Women’s March will be held on January 19th of 2019 and is being put on by Planned Parenthood and Women’s March Bay Area.
